Your baby is growing - months 4 and 5
Now that you’re approaching or have reached 16 weeks, that’s about 4 months’ pregnant. If you want to see what your baby looks like in the earlier stages of pregnancy, here are two early installments: Your baby is growing - the first 2 months and Your baby is growing - the third month.
What does your baby look like now?
You might not feel it yet, but at around 13 weeks, your baby started moving around and kicking. At 14 weeks - in girls, the ovaries have started to form and in boys, the prostate gland.
At 15 weeks, we are seeing skin starting to form and at 16 weeks, the image to the left, your baby can make a fist and may be making facial expressions. Also at this point, you may feel the baby hiccupping.
The picture to the left is your baby at 20 weeks. Between the image above (16 weeks) and now, your baby has made a lot of changes. Fat begins to form at around 17 weeks. At 18 weeks, the ears begin to start working and your baby can start hearing your voice, your stomach and your heartbeat.
This is the point, at 19 weeks, that your baby’s skin will be coated with a white coating called vernix. This coating is to protect your baby’s skin. Your baby also starts urinating now. And - at 20 weeks - you are now carrying a baby who is about 6 inches long and moving around freely.
