Transition stage: This is often referred to as the toughest part of labor. It’s when the cervix dilates from 8–10 centimeters.

Transverse lie: Usually the baby in the uterus lies head down, sometimes head up and butt down (breech) but when the baby lies crosswise in the uterus, this is a tranverse lie.
