On September 19, 2008, UNICEF released a new report on maternal mortality around the world and the news remains grim.
The report, Progress for Children: A Report Card on Maternal Mortality says more than 99% of all maternal deaths occur in developing countries. Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia are particularly hard hit with 84%.
